HA House Rize
Year: 2020
Area: 240 m2
Located in Rize, on an elevated site embedded within a dense green landscape, the project is conceived as a single-family residence that engages with its natural and cultural context through a contemporary architectural language.
Rather than adopting a literal formal interpretation of local Black Sea architecture, the design draws from its underlying principles—proportion, scale, shadow, and the articulation of deep eaves. Tradition is approached as a method rather than a form, allowing architectural elements and material expressions to evolve in response to present-day needs.
The façade reflects this attitude through a careful balance of solid and void, layered surfaces, and controlled openings, creating a dialogue with the surrounding topography and climate.
Similarly, the spatial organization is informed by the typology of the traditional Turkish house, particularly the use of a central hall (sofa) and a clear, cohesive plan structure. This reference is reinterpreted to support contemporary living, resulting in a dwelling that is both rooted in its context and responsive to modern life.
